POSTPONED! THE 2020 GRAND FLORAL PARADE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL LATER IN 2020. WE WILL SEND UPDATES AS SOON AS WE KNOW THE PLANS OF THE ROSE FESTIVAL FOUNDATION.
Here is the message we received on March 19 from the parade organizers:
Greetings to all of our Rose Festival parade partners and participants:
The health of our community and our friends around the world is the most important thing.
We are continuing to cautiously plan for a 2020 Rose Festival in hopes that conditions will allow us to offer some or all of our events to the community at the appropriate time. It has become clear that the proper timing is not our original dates of May 22nd through June 7th. As Portland’s Official Festival, we will work with city leaders to identify the appropriate timing for the 2020 Rose Festival.
Rose Festival has inspired the community for more than a hundred years through many challenging times, and we have learned to evolve our traditions as necessary. We look forward to being part of the healing process after the current crisis has passed.

When it happens this year or later
2020 is our year to celebrate 100 years of women’s suffrage in the U.S. AND the centennial of the League of Women Voters. Later this year, we hope to march in the Portland Rose Festival’s Grand Floral Parade. When that happens we hope you’ll join us to have some fun and highlight all that we’ve accomplished!
Our participation will provide an exciting element for the parade’s viewers. It is also a meaningful recognition of important milestones. With 2020 as an election year, the public will have a heightened appreciation for celebrating women’s suffrage and the League.
Up to 50 of us will walk the 4-mile route 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will be a “marching entry” behind a wide League banner, and with suffrage flags, sashes, and many signs (e.g. “Votes for Women” or “LWV,” but no political signs). If you need one of these emblems, we can provide some signs, sashes, and flags for you. In addition, members of like-minded groups may join us. Anyone who is 14 or older can march with us. (No pets.) We ask you for a $20/person donation to the League for each participant.
Dressing for the PARADE
You can come in a period costume—looking like a suffragist. (If this appeals to you, see the links below to find a costume.) If you don’t want to dress in costume, that’s OK. Modern dress or dress from any era in the past 100 years is just fine. We do encourage white clothing, because it symbolizes the suffrage movement. Of course, you definitely should wear comfortable walking shoes.
