Celebrating and Preparing for our Future

The LWVPDX Local Convention marked the beginning of a year-long celebration of our 100th anniversary. Before the formal business meeting of the membership, members enjoyed a buffet, socialized and chatted about the decisions to be made. Then they listened to a talk by Lynn Peterson, President of our Metro Council. Our Summer edition of the Voter newsletter will include a report on President Peterson’s address.

We also enjoyed a real birthday cake and symbolically lit the cardboard birthday candles on a foam cake with pledges for donations to ensure that the League begins its second century going strong.

During our business meeting, we recognized our volunteers, our Life and new members, and our 2018-19 Volunteers of the Year.

Current members approved a budget for next year and voted on proposed bylaw amendments and program proposals. New officers, directors, and committee chairs were elected.

At the end of the Convention, we added up the donations from members that were symbolized by the candles on our foam birthday cake. We met the matching grant and then some with total donations (including the match) of more than $9,000.
