Looking Forward! Looking Back!
The LWVPDX Local Convention is our annual membership meeting. It marks the beginning of a year-long celebration of our 100th anniversary. This is the run-up to our big birthday party in February 2020, and we will use this convention time to look forward to the year ahead, and backward to the year just completed.
We will gather on Monday, May 13, at Taborspace (5441 SE Belmont) to review, celebrate, plan, and enjoy a light salad supper. We will also hear from Metro President Lynn Peterson about what Metro is planning as we get ready to start the third decade of the 21st Century. Come at 5pm to socialize; we’ll begin the buffet dinner at 5:30.
The Convention committee worked hard to make the cost of the evening as low as possible. The Convention needs to be self-supporting, covering the cost of the room and the food. Therefore, this will be the ultimate self-catered event, relying on the great cooks at New Seasons to provide us with salads and the great provisioners at Costco to provide all the extras. The cost of the evening with dinner is $25; if you prefer to just join us for coffee and cake, the cost is $5.
It’s going to be a busy night. In addition to our amazing speaker and the usual work of the Convention, we will begin lighting the birthday candles (symbolically) to ensure that the work of the League begins its second century going strong.
During our business meeting, we’ll recognize our volunteers, our Life and new members, and remember those members who have passed this year. Current members will approve a budget for next year and discuss and vote on proposed bylaw amendments, and program proposals for our positions, for studies, and for interest groups. New officers, directors, and committee chairs will be elected; the outgoing leaders will be thanked.
