Last week, leaders from your Portland League were honored to join Senator Ron Wyden at his press conference about why we oppose the heinous SAVE Act sitting in the Senate right now. Secretary of State Tobias Read also addressed the group, along with leaders from three local civil rights groups.

Senator Wyden’s office reached out to us at LWV because they know that defeating SAVE has been a priority for LWVUS and because they respect our role as leaders in defending voting rights.

The SAVE Act would create more red tape for voters seeking to exercise their right to vote, especially women, rural voters, students, and tribal members, and it would end mail-in voting. This would hit home hard for Oregonians, ending our 26 years of success with vote-by-mail. Instead of expanding voter access, the SAVE Act would put up barriers and reduce voter participation.

This isn’t a partisan issue: people of all parties should be working to encourage voting, not restrict it.

Take action now to urge your Senators to oppose SAVE.
