Once you become a member, you can participate in a “Discussion Unit.”

Discussion Units are small group meetings which enable you to:

- deepen your knowledge through discussion of Community Education programs and other current issues
- discuss local and state ballot measures
- guide League policy and action through consensus discussions of local and state LWV Studies and
- visit with new and old friends in small group monthly meetings.
Before March 2020, Discussion Units met monthly (except in December and during summer months) in various Portland locations. The meetings were usually in a member’s home or in a common room in a member’s residence.
During the pandemic, these small discussion groups started successfully meeting via Zoom. Now some continue by Zoom or as hybrid meetings (Zoom + in-person) and others are in person.
We want to make the opportunity to participate in these important small group discussions available to as many members as possible. Members’ guests are welcome too.
If you are thinking about participating in a Discussion Unit and would like to learn more about this activity, please contact Ryann Enger at units@lwvpdx.org. Alternatively, when you join or renew your membership, you may indicate your interest on your printed Participation Form (to mail in with your Membership form) or your online Member Information and Interest Form. The Discussion Unit leader will then add you to the list of participants and contact you before each meeting.

Usual days and times for Discussion Unit meetings:
Unit 2: 4th Monday of the month from 10 am to noon. Barbara Byrd, Leader
Unit 3: 4th Monday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm (Zoom only). Olivia Smith, Leader
Unit 4: 3rd Thursday of the month from 1 to 3 pm. Lynn Baker, Leader
Unit 5: 3rd Saturday of the month from 10:30 am to 12 pm at Terwilliger Plaza. Linda Mather, Leader
Unit 6: 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30 am. (Leader to be announced)
Unit 7: 3rd Monday of the month from 1 to 3 pm. Ryann Enger, Leader
