Members invited to take part in discussions on specific issues for state and national policy conversations
Before advocating on an issue, League members study the issue carefully. After studying an issue from all viewpoints, members discuss the study’s results. Then members must agree on a new “Advocacy Position Statement” through consensus.
Usually, these conversations happen in Discussion Units. If you’re not already part of a DU, look for a Member Message or Voter email about opportunities to join a unit for a consensus process conversation. You do not have to be a member of that unit or any unit to take part in program planning and consensus conversations.
In the 2024-25 program year, local leagues have been asked to consider four positions/studies from the state and national Leagues.
The consensus process is essential to the development of League position statements that reflect the views of our members. With that in mind, we invite all members to participate in one of our Discussion Units to help LWVPDX complete the consensus process.
LWVUS Judiciary Study
The national League is hoping to develop its first position statement about the federal judiciary, through an accelerated timeline for a study that the membership approved last summer.
Join a LWVUS town hall discussing this study on February 4 at 4pm via Teams (you may need to download the app if you haven’t used Microsoft Teams before).
