The League of Women Voters of Portland, in partnership with the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, is hosting 50 students for discussion of civic involvement and the Portland Plan. The students will submit their recommendations for the Portland Plan to the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.
On Tuesday, September 29, fifty students from Jefferson High School, Helensview School, Trillium Charter School, and Self Enhancement, Inc. will convene at the Curious Comedy Theater, 5225 NE Martin Luther King Boulevard, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to discuss the Portland Plan and to offer their ideas for Portland’s future. The event, funded by the Multnomah Bar Foundation, will introduce the students to the work and the value of participation in government.
Youth planners from the City of Portland’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and students in the Youth Creators program of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods are planning the event. Keynote speakers will discuss the importance of civic involvement. The students will work in small groups to discuss several action areas important to the Portland Plan: environmental health, community design, neighborhoods, housing, and human health. The students will offer their recommendations for the Portland Plan, which they will submit to the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.
The League of Women Voters of Portland is producing the event in partnership with the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods.
