Oregon’s Food Story – From Farm to Many Tables
Tuesday, November 8, 7:00 pm
Multnomah County Building Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Agriculture supports Oregon. We feed the world and ourselves. Learn the details of this fascinating story on November 8th.
Agriculture accounts for 12% of the state’s economic activity, and 11% of the state’s employment. Oregon is a family farm state, less than 2% of Oregon farms are non-family corporate entities. Portland and Oregon are home to nationally recognized programs to diversify food distribution and expand opportunities for farming and eating in a sustainable way.
The League of Women Voters will bring these two strands of Oregon’s Food Story together on November 8. A distinguished panel of agriculture experts will address League members and the general public.
Gary Roth is Administrator of the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Agricultural Development & Marketing Division. Roth directs 30 ODA programs assisting in developing and marketing Oregon agricultural businesses and products locally, domestically and internationally.
Allison Hensey is Program Director of Healthy Food & Farms Program of the Oregon Environmental Council. Hensey’s focus is supporting the environmental stewardship and economic vitality of Oregon’s farmers and ranchers and empowering eaters to improve their quality of life through healthy, sustainable food choices.
Dr. Larry Lev is a Professor and Extension Economist in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Oregon State University. Professor Lev’s focus is outreach and applied research on local food systems and values-based agricultural supply chains.
The League of Women Voters is a public policy organization. It works to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government.
This event is free and open to the public. It will be taped and televised on Metro East Community Media during the several weeks following the meeting.
