League of Women Voters to Host Discussion: “Water – Not a Drop to Waste”
Public Invited at 7pm on March 10th

The League of Women Voters of Portland will host a discussion of the quality and management of Oregon’s water resources on Tuesday, March 10th at 7pm. The event will be held in the Board Room of the Multnomah County Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Winter rains and snow in the mountains provide the City of Portland with an abundant supply of water for daily use.  However, water supply in Eastern Oregon is much less predictable.  The future impacts of climate change may result in an entirely different picture of water in Oregon.  How do we ensure that the water supply remains adequate and clean for the appropriate use?

Mike Wiltsey, Senior Water Quality Analyst with the Oregon DEQ Water Quality Division, will discuss water quality successes in Oregon.  Dwight French, Water Rights and Adjudications Division Administrator with the Oregon Water Resources Department, will discuss water rights in Oregon.  Marnie Lonsdale, chair of a study of water in Oregon by the League of Women Voters of Oregon, will moderate the discussion.  To read the first report of the study, go to http://www.lwvor.org/recentstudies.htm.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.
