Teens Let Officials Know How City of Portland Could Improve

Thirty students from Jefferson and De La Salle North Catholic high schools and the Trillium Charter School gathered at the Curious Comedy Theatre on September 29 to discuss the Portland Plan and to offer their ideas for Portland’s future. The event, funded by a generous grant from the Multnomah Bar Foundation, introduced the students to the work and the value of participation in government.

About one in four Portlanders is younger than 18, and a group of them gathered Tuesday to tell adults how the city should improve and expand over the next 30 years.

 The 25 teenagers from De La Salle North, Jefferson High and Trillium Charter schools tackled three areas of the Portland Plan -- health, community design and housing and neighborhoods. The plan is a three-year effort to guide the city's physical, economic, cultural and environmental development.
