Notes and reflections from Friday, October 16.

Job Shadows

An appointment was arranged for each delegate this morning that we have called a “job shadow.”  We tried to find a person in Portland doing work similar to each delegate’s job in Russia. In some cases the appointment was with a person that could explain some area of great interest for the delegate.

Irina Malinina met with: Sherry Swackhamer, Chief Information Officer, Information Technology, Multnomah County

Aleksandr Mefodyev met with: David Barenberg, Lobbyist, Office of Government Relations, City of Portland

Veronika Trushkova met with: Tom Linhares, Executive Director, Tax Supervising and Conservation Commission (TSCC), Multnomah County

Andrey Tarasov and Sergey Yeger met earlier in the week with Dean Marriott and Scott Gibson of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services and today they toured BES facilities.

We then were treated to a wonderful lunch at the home of League members Rita and Lee Fawcett.

In the afternoon Andrey and Veronika toured the Oregon Humane Society with League members Betsy Pratt and Pat Russell who are OHS volunteers.

Later, Andrey and Alex met with four members of the Citizen Tax Board at the Lucky Lab pub. Other delegates began the shopping component of the trip at Lloyd Center.
