Campaign Finance Reform
-
Portland City Council adopted a groundbreaking campaign finance system in 2005 with the support of LWV Portland and other advocates for reform. Commonly known as Voter-Owned Elections, it is a cost effective reform that increases public confidence in the political process and makes the system more accessible to all. The League of Women Voters strongly supports campaign finance reform at all levels of government.
-
Lobbyist Reform
-
The League was an active participant in the 2006 creation of Portland’s lobbyist registration program and continues to monitor it and make recommendations for improvement.
-
Neighborhood Associations
-
From 2004-2007, the League engaged in a review of Portland’s Neighborhood Associations. Since then, we have worked to support adequate funding for the Office of Neighborhood Involvement and its programs. In particular, the League supports efforts to increase the number and diversity of people involved in their communities and to encourage City decision makers to give more weight to citizen input.
-
Police Oversight
-
For over 25 years, the League has participated in community efforts to create and monitor a civilian oversight system for handling citizen complaints of police conduct.
