About the Book: Portland: People, Politics, and Power, 1851-2001, was published by the Oregon State University Press in 2003 and 2005. Structured to follow the tenures of Portland’s mayors, the book features rundowns of council activity under each mayor, with colorful anecdotes about the times. Jewel’s book is an enjoyable and easy-to-read snapshot of local politics that will leave readers better acquainted with how their city works.
